Office-Party Cleanup Is Definitely NOT The After-Party Party: Options For Managing It

Office parties can definitely be a lot of fun. What is not a lot of fun is the after-party cleanup. It is more than your in-house janitors can do, and more than the office staff want to do. So, how will you manage the after-party cleanup? Probably with something like the following:

Establish Rules and Employ Bouncers

Yes, rules at a party are not exactly fun, but they do help tone down the mess. If you employ bouncers for the party or appoint employee volunteers as the designated bouncers, then anyone caught breaking the party rules has to leave. Sometimes this really helps, since bouncing those who are ruining other employees' experiences often allows the remaining group to have even more fun.

Hire Caterers That Serve Non-Messy Finger Foods

Since humans drop food all the time, one of the best ways to micromanage office-party mess is to avoid serving potentially messy food to begin with. Hire a caterer that will only serve non-messy finger foods that can be eaten in three bites or less. You'd be surprised how big a difference that can make.

Have the Office Party Somewhere Else

If the thought of a giant mess in the office is just too unnerving, you could have the office party somewhere else. There are many fine banquet halls and conference rooms in hotels where you can have your party. Best of all, it is the hotel staff that handles the after-party cleanup.

Another option is to have the office party outside if the weather is comfortable and suitable. This is the number one reason why so many offices and businesses choose to have a party in the summer and do an outdoor barbecue. Any food and drink, or even vomit, is left in the great outdoors where nature takes care of these problems with its own personal "cleaners."

Use Commercial Cleaning Services

Even if you want your in-house janitorial crew to clean the basics (e.g., clean the bathrooms, empty garbage cans, wipe down walls and light switches, etc.), you can still hire commercial cleaning services to clean up the office space. Dropped food, food stains, drink stains, and a whole host of other tasks not typically handled by your in-house cleaning staff is what the commercial cleaners will clean up. These cleaners for hire come prepared for more in-depth, post-office party cleanup. Additionally, if you ever want commercial cleaners to come clean on a weekly basis, they can do that too.
