Have A Goal
One of the things that can really help you as you pursue vocal lessons is to have a goal. Have a specific idea of what you want to get out of your vocal lessons, and be sure to share that goal with your vocal teacher.
You and your vocal teacher can use your goal to guide your training, and break your large goal up into smaller, achievable pieces. Knowing what you want heading into your first vocal lessons will help your vocal coach know how to guide your training.
Be Ready to Go Over the Basics
Second, you need to be ready to go over the basics with your vocal coach. When you start working with your vocal coach, you need to be prepared to go over the basics. When you start a lesson, your vocal coach is going to want to help you warm up your voice.
They are also going to want to learn about your tone, style, and your range. One of the best ways to do this is by signing basic scales and doing basic vocal exercises. This will allow you to warm up your voice and will allow your vocal coach to learn about your vocal skills.

The more you practice, the sooner you will reach your goals. If you want to progress, you are going to need to put in the time between your lessons. The harder you work outside of class, the more you will see progress within your class.
